Insert directly into db

The short story . . . I have a lexicon with 2022 items. Rather than entering them individually, is there any issue with inserting them directly into the appropriate database table?

The long story . . . many years ago (before the wonders of WordPress) I wrote a php script which presented these items in a lexicon for a client. The then-host recently had a hardware failure which encouraged me to migrate to a more reliable host. The php script was written in 5.4 for mysql with a full array of administrative scripts for managing the entries. It’s a bit pointless to rewrite all of that when there are now plugins that will do the presentation in WordPress. Client happy, me happy, yea!
