# Insert link function in posts is not working

 * I am working on a post. I highlight the text to insert a link, press the insert
   link button, and though the window comes up, it is unresponsive. Normally, I 
   copy and paste links, but now I cannot even get the right click menu. I also 
   cannot type a link directly rather than pasting. Thanks for any help in advance.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from 
   a **fresh** download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of
   files & folder before uploading the new ones.

 * I eliminated the plugins and theme as a possible cause. But I would be more comfortable
   adding links by hand with html than reloading a 3 year blog. At least the html
   still works.
