Insert photo issue

I am very new to WordPress, so sorry for the basic question.

I have a wordpress site, to which I want to add some pictures. I have uploaded pictures to the media library, but then the issue starts.

All I seem able to do is place a hyperlink into a page, not the picture? If I click on embed I just get “it’s not possible to embed”.

Obviously you can put a picture onto a wordpress site but what am I doing wrong (answer as simple as possible please)?
