# Insert Read More

 * Many times my posts are long, thousands of words on my site so I use the ‘insert
read more’ tag on almost every page as it cuts down on the length of the home
   page.
With the new update that button, the easy click, has vanished. I looked
at where I thought was everywhere for it, even used shift-alt-t, to no avail.
   Where did you hide it?
 * This is but one of many annoyances of the new 5.0.2 which feel as if the editor
part has taken a step back instead of forwards. What was simple and easy is turning
   into clunky and confusing.

 * There’s a block — type “/mo” on a new line and you’ll be able to add a “more”
   block.
 * Yes, I know, but that’s how it now works. 🙁
 * Or install the plugin “Classic Editor” and use the old editor instead.

 * So, basically you took an editor WP had and went backwards with it. In order
to fix it I have to install a plugin?
Really, where do I complain about such
   backward headed editors?

 * No, the new editor is quite a leap forwards, actually. Play with it, start writing
in blocks. It takes some getting used to, but when you start exploring the blocks
and seeing how they work, I think you’ll find it to be a big improvement.
 * And yes, the More block serves the same purpose as the old read more tag did.
Just insert the more block into your content where you want that break point
   to be.

 * No, having to type in “/mo” in a block is going backwards not forwards. Feels
like I’m working in HTML again when I first started my website.

 * No, you don’t have to type in “/mo”. That’s not like a secret code or something.
That’s just one method of selecting a block, via the quick block selection shortcut.
 * You can add a block in many different ways. Click the + button and find the “
more block” in the block selection popup. Hit the / slash key for the block quick
   select. That sort of thing.
 * If you are typing along and want to add an image, you can hit / and then type
ima in order to search for the image block. Or gal for the gallery block, or
whatever. It’s a search that shows up on the screen when you hit / slash.
 * Or, if you’re in a block, CTRL-ALT-T will insert a new block above it, CTRL-ALT-
Y will insert a new block below it. These are shortcuts to the menu item in the
block three-dot menu. Many ways to add a new block. The More block is just another
   block.

 * Otto, I’m not trying to ‘insert a new block’, I’m trying to find the ‘insert
read more’ tag button, or was that removed? You know, if you visit the main page
and see a bit of an article and then click the ‘read more’ link to get the full
   page.

 * It was removed in the new editor. You need to add a “more” block, as noted above.
The more block functions like the old “more” thing worked.

 * Yes, the “More Block” replaced the read-more tag method. It’s ultimately the
exact same thing, it marks the place in the post where the read-more separation
is. Only now, it’s a block, because the post is built out of blocks. You can
insert it where you like, move it around, etc.
 * In a similar fashion, the “Page Break” block replaced the old `<!--nextpage--
   >` tag. Again, it is the exact same thing, just in block form.

 * Sorry, but I see more complexity here, and as I said, reminds me more of when
I was updating my site with HTML. I came to WP due to simple. The insert read
more used to be a simple button on top. Put my cursor where I wanted it, hit
the button and bam, it was done.
 * Oh, I can move it around, not a big deal. What is the big deal is how its gone
from the simple method of one click to the IDK, let’s see how many steps we need
to do this now, isn’t improvement.
 * If its not a one click button with the mouse, you’ve made it more complex.

 * Well, that’s a view, certainly. You’re welcome to your opinions. I personally
think blocks are easier and give the user more and better control. Having a big
bunch of buttons isn’t always preferable or faster when it comes to things like
   usability.

 * More control? I don’t think so: the “Read the rest of this entry” module is now
required to be its own paragraph, rather than popping in at whatever point in
the line where the author feels it would be most enticing, and was formerly (
as pointed out by prior posters) easily placed.
 * I just spent a freaking half-hour trying to get the thing where I wanted (inc.
trying to outsmart the blockhead format by inserting an html more tag into the
paragraph block, didn’t work)…and ultimately gave up. MY OPINION TO WHICH I’M
SO GRACIOUSLY WELCOMED AS PER SAMUEL WOOD IS THAT THIS NEW VERSION SUCKS!
