# Install problem – /wp-admin/install.php not found

* Hi, I’ve been trying to install WordPress 3.3.1 for a couple of days now and
have had little success at running install.php.
* I’m completely new to this so it may be a very basic problem but I have spent
lots of time going through existing threads and yet nothing seems to work. I’m
confident that the wp-config.txt entries match the database.
* I’ve managed to upload the files via FTP and when I access the file via ftp://’
domain’/wp/wp-admin/install.php I can see the text contained within the php file.
However when I try [http://’domain’/wp/wp-admin/install.php](http://’domain’/wp/wp-admin/install.php)
I get a 404 error. The same goes for all directories and php scripts.
* If anybody could provide a bit of insight into this it would be very much appreciated.

* Do you have a URL we could look at? It sounds like you don’t have the server
configured to read the php files, however, I’d like to verify it for you.

* You want to verify a few things. Make sure you’ve uploaded the files to the punlib_html
folder and not in a subfolder, if you want WordPress on the main domain. Also,
make sure the domain is pointed to your hosting account. I looked around and
didnt see an installation of WordPress.

* I assume you mean public_html? It’s definitely there.
* I accessed the install.php via FTP and I get the following;
* Error: PHP is not running
WordPress requires that your web server
is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off.
* I checked with my provider and apparently I’m running PHP 5.2.17 which I am assured
is a greater version than 5.2.4, is this correct?

* Hi, I’ve just managed to install the WordPress in public_html by first removing
all files that were in there by default and then re-uploading all the WordPress
files. This ends days of frustration. Tim, thanks so much for your help.

* Yes, 5.2.17 is greater than 5.2.4
* Sorry for the typo, yes I indeed meant the public_html folder. I”m glad you were
able to resolve your issues.
