Installation Error

I tried installing wp through Fantastico and it wasn’t working…after repaeated atempts. I know I put all the correct info in too.
So now I’m trying to manually install and its not working either. I get all my files uploaded which was a challenge in it-self, and I go to the page “/wp-admin/install.php” and I get an error message.
I checked and rechecked my database information. At the bottom of my cpanel mysql page it says my host is “localhost” and I carefully put in the database username and password but its still not working!
Please I need help! Whats going wrong? Fantastico wont set it up properly and neither can I.

sorry but I wanted to add, it wont take me to the log in page or the admin page and I’m getting an “500 internal server error”

The “internal server error” can be many things. Can you access your server error logs from cPanel?
Also, are the permissions correct on your folders?
(I can see WP is there)yes, I can see my error log.
How do I know if the permissions are correct? I didn’t see anyting during the installation telling me what they should be.
Permissions can be seen either through your FTP client or in cPanel (it’s the number next to the folder)

Probably a more knowledgable helper could tell you how to read the error logs – they might have the clue. (I am not very good in that, sorry…)What happens if you browse directly to

I have wp installed successfully with a different host. Do you think its my hosts fault?
I contacted my host several hours and haven’t gotten a response back.
Ok new problem.
I tried installing wp in a directory, enthused.org/wp/ and it works.
What I want is my WP files in my root directory. I tried moving them and it still wont work. How do I get my blog and sidebar to be on my index page in the root directory. Because as of right now if I copy the wp index page into my root directory I still get the 500ISE.
Nothing is working.
I found this link (http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory) within the one you gave me above and followed it step by step.
didn’t work *sigh*
When I use the files in a subdirectory everything works. but nothing will work in my root directory.
