# Installation Error – FastCGI process exited unexpectedly

 * Hello,
 * I am doing a manual installation on a windows hosted server running IIS. I filled
   in the initial settings and launched the install process, but each time I get
   the error “:\ScriptEngines\Php\parsers\nts\v8_0\php-cgi.exe – The FastCGI process
   exited unexpectedly”. Nothing more detailed than that and I can’t seem to find
   an error log file anywhere.
 * I can see that tables were created in the database, so the DB connection info
   is good.
 * This is my first time installing WP, so I am not sure where to look to try and
   debug the process. Any guidance or link to resources would be greatly appreciated!

 * I only have limited IIS access via the web-based control panel available by my
   hosting provider, so I don’t have access to the Web Platform Installer.
 * I did everything in the second link you provided and get the error at step 3 
   of “Setup and Configure the Application”.
 * I have opened a ticket with my hosting provider to see if there is something 
   they can do on their end.

 * Are you using WordPress hosting or VPS hosting with Windows OS?
    If you are using
   WordPress hosting, your hosting provider might have provided you an easy-to-use
   control panel to install or manage WordPress sites. But if you are using unmanaged
   VPS hosting with Windows OS, then you might have already received RDP access 
   of your server. For managed VPS, ask your provider to install the WordPress site
   for you.

 * Finally the problem was the fact that I was using PHP v8. I used a lower version
   and all worked fine!
