# Installation Error – Really Weird

 * Hey, I’m trying to install wordpress but I keep getting this error…
 * Error establishing a database connection
 * This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.
   php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This
   could mean your host’s database server is down.
 *  * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that
   you have typed the correct hostname? * Are you sure that the database server 
   is running?
 * I’ve done it dozens of times before the same way, but this time it didn’t work
   for some reason. I’ve triple checked the config file and it’s all correct.
 * How can I fix it?

 * Are you sure that `localhost` is correct?
    I know that _usually_ it doesn’t need
   to be changed, but there is a very popular hosting company that is very cheap
   that you need to put the actual database address. Just a thought, -Mike

 * Thanks Mike, yeah I’m using Hostgator and it’s localhost, the same as I use for
   all my other sites. Are there any other things that could be causing this?
