# Installation Failed

 * The installation failed due to “Could not copy file: xxxxx…./wp-admin/includes/
   update-core.php”
 * now I’m not able to access the wp-admin because it’s throwing me 500 internal
   server error.
 * I looked for the “.maintenance” file and cannot find it anywhere in the root 
   directory other than .htaccess.

    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder
   using [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) (or use whatever file management
   application your host provides)
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
 *  – re-upload all files & folders from a **fresh** download of WordPress 3.0 and
   re-run the upgrade [manually](http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress)
