 * Install gets Internal Error
 * – I have made a fresh install of WP in GoDaddy with the primary purpose of using
the Participants Database plugin. WP installation went well, installed and customized
a theme. I have a deluxe Windows Server plan running IIS.
    – When I went to install
the plugin I got the following error after a minute or two. Installation failed:
500 Internal Server Error <!–[if lte IE 6]><![endif]–> Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to
complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform of the
time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused
the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error
log. Web Server at itsolutionspr.com <!– – Unfortunately, Microsoft has added
a clever new – “feature” to Internet Explorer. If the text of – an error’s message
is “too small”, specifically – less than 512 bytes, Internet Explorer returns–
its own error message. You can turn that off, – but it’s pretty tricky to find
switch called – “smart error messages”. That means, of course, – that short error
messages are censored by default. – IIS always returns error messages that are
long – enough to make Internet Explorer happy. The – workaround is pretty simple:
pad the error – message with a big comment like this to push it – over the five
hundred and twelve bytes minimum. – Of course, that’s exactly what you’re reading–
   right now. –>
 * – Button that used to say “Install” now says “Update Failed”
    – Installed Plugins
page in WP shows it’s Installed and pending Activation – At first I didn’t try
to activate it since it seems to me it probably didn’t complete the installation
correctly. – I deleted the plugin from WP and tried instalation again getting
the same results. – I click “Edit” under the plugin on the Installed Plugin page
and I can see the code in there, apparently complete – Clicking activate gets
me internal error again. This: Internal Server Error
 * The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to
   complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator to inform of
the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have
   caused the error.
 * More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
 * – The plugin nevertheless shows status of active, since it has a link to “Deactivate”.
I also see the meu options for Participants Database (List, Add, Manage, Import,
   etc)
    – However, I’d like to find out if there has been a major problem in the
installation that will explode later on after I set up the whole system. How
can I verify the installation? – Any help appreciated. Thanks.

 * Without some clue as to the specific problem, it will be hard for me to be of
much help. Did you ask GoDaddy to take a look at the logs to see if there was
an an error logged that is causing the problem?
 * This can be caused by a PHP error, but it’s more likely a server caching issue
   or corrupted plugin files.

 * Thanks. I’ll see if GD can do that.
