Title: Installation problems on a virtual server Last modified: August 18, 2016 --- # Installation problems on a virtual server * Resolved [badcredit](https://wordpress.org/support/users/badcredit/) * (@badcredit) * [18 years, 8 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/installation-problems-on-a-virtual-server/) * Hi, I have followed the instructions but when I got to the part that I’m suppose to run the software it doesn’t work. * I downloaded the software to my desktop, unzipped and uploaded it to the root folder on my server which is known as httpdocs. * I then made my database and then renamed the wp-config-sample file and also edited the appropriate details (I believe). When I then went to wp-password. I’m guessing its one of these three: DB_HOST, admin/install.php on my server it wasn’t showing me anything. I then rechecked the wp-config.php and didn’t see anything that I messed up. * I renamed the username, and DB_CHARSET, or DB_COLLATE. The only problem is I’m not sure how I can tell if I need to change one of these variables :(. * I have do everything manually on my server so I’m not sure where to exactly start, support for my hosting is not very reliable either :-(. One promblem solved, another one fixed. It seemed like i did domething extra, i traced the url of the wordpress folder on my server and it was a little different then the one its suppose to be. It had the word wordpress in it twice.
