 * Hey,
 * I am having trouble to install the german language files. I already uploaded
   them and used your article.
 * [https://lifterlms.com/docs/how-to-load-lifterlms-translation-files-or-language-packs/](https://lifterlms.com/docs/how-to-load-lifterlms-translation-files-or-language-packs/)
 * This is where I uploaded the po and mo files:
 * /webseiten/wordpress/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/lifterlms/languages
 * /webseiten/wordpress/wordpress/wp-content/languages
 * I have no idea what I am missing. Thanks for your support!

 * [@thomaswoz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/thomaswoz/),
 * See the note that says (Add your custom language files here)? That’s where you
   put them!
 * EG: `/webseiten/wordpress/wordpress/wp-content/languages/lifterlms/lifterlms-{
   locale}.mo`
 * hope that helps,

 * I also have the files there. Not working.
 * What do you guys mean with core language files? Are those supposed to be the
   US files?

 * [@thomasplevy](https://wordpress.org/support/users/thomasplevy/),
 * Core language files are files automatically downloaded by WordPress via GlotPress
 * Those files are not “safe” as language packs stored there are automatically updated
   and overwritten.
 * The custom directory is safe and is loaded first (so it takes priority).
 * Are you naming the file correctly based on your locale?
 * German should be `lifterlms-de_DE.mo`
 * Unless you’re using another German dialect.
 * I’m not sure why this wouldn’t be working. I work with translators almost every
   day and I’m fairly certain I’d have been yelled at by now if this wasn’t functioning
   correctly.
 * Can you send me a screenshot of your directory tree for the languages and your
   system report?
 * Thanks,

 * Oh I am sure I am doing something wrong here..so thank you for your help!
 * I just noticed that the files got deleted from /webseiten/wordpress/wordpress/
   wp-content/plugins/lifterlms/languages directory. I put them back but still not
   working for me.
 * Here are the screenshots:

 * [@thomaswoz](https://wordpress.org/support/users/thomaswoz/),
 * You’re putting them in the LifterLMS plugin directory. Several issues here:
 * 1) We don’t load language files from that directory
    2) If you put things in
   that directory, due to the way upgrades work, it will be deleted every time LifterLMS
   gets upgraded! This is why we don’t load things from that directory.
 * So let’s return to the documentation on where to save your files: [https://lifterlms.com/docs/how-to-load-lifterlms-translation-files-or-language-packs/](https://lifterlms.com/docs/how-to-load-lifterlms-translation-files-or-language-packs/)
 * On your server it should go in here: “/webseiten/wordpress/wordpress/wp-content/
   languages/lifterlms/lifterlms-{locale}.mo”
 * Hope that helps,

 * I have the files there as well. Sorry for the hassle.

 * What’s your locale? Are you certain you have the correct locale (de_DE) selected
   in your WP General settings?
 * Post a copy of your system report if you’re not sure.

 * Ahh there it is. I had selected the formal german language “Deutsche (Sie)”.
   It is working with the regular german now. I don’t think there is any difference
   in the two anyway.
 * Thank you so much!

 * Ok so unfortunately I have to use the formal german setting “Deutsch (Sie)” instead
   of “Deutsch” again. All the WooCommerce emails are informal which will not be
   appropriate for my customers.
 * Is there a way to make the language files work for “Deutsch (Sie)” setting as
   well?
