Installing wordpress to exisitng Subdirectory (multilingual website)

I have already translated the website using a plugin and it by default gives a subdirectory http://www.exmaple.com/es
I now want to know if I’m installing WordPress to the subdirectory http://www.exmaple.com/es, will I be able to edit the translated version of the website or will that be treated as a separate subdirectory when I need to put in all the contents and build a website from scratch?
I hope my question is clear enough.
