 * I have completed all the steps to install WordPress and am typing in /wp-admin/
   install.php but just get an error message saying the [page cannot be displayed](https://wordpress.org/www.maginrose.com/web/content/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php?output_format=md).
   I have checked my coding and deleted all of WordPress and up-loaded it a second
   time but with no success. I know that something is happening as my index page
   is appearing as the defalt [‘Your website is ready’](http://www.maginrose.com).
 * I am using Filezilla and have saved WordPress under web/content. The install
   page is under wp-admin and in the main WordPress directory. Please help.
 * Maggie

 * Is there an index.html from your host in that directory? Delete or rename it?
   The only index.* file in there should be the one from WordPress.

 * Thank you – I hadn’t noticed that these weren’t WordPress. Now I’m getting a
   403 forbidden message – but I remember seeing some instructions for dealing with
   this, I will see if I can find them.

 * I have found the instructions for the [403 forbidden error message ](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Installation#What_is_the_403_error_I_get_when_trying_to_see_my_site.3F)
   but the menu ‘Web options’ is not an available option on my Control Panel. Is
   this definitely referring to the websitesettings Control Panel?

 * Hard to say.
 * Tell us again where you think you’ve installed WordPress?
    It doesn’t appear
   to be at [http://www.maginrose.com/](http://www.maginrose.com/) — is it in a
   subdirectory?

 * Yes. It’s in a sub-directory. web/content. I checked with my host (Laughing Squid)
   and there shouldn’t be a problem with the page being index.php. Should the web-
   admin file be immediately under ‘WordPress’? Currently is is under wp-content?

 * wp-admin is a directory and should be at the same level as wp-content.
 * What URL do you think the blog is at? (Laughing Squid could help with that)

 * Actually, ignore that last bit of the previous post – I have two files called
   wp-admin, one directly under WordPress and one under wp-content.

 * I’m sorry, do you mean my domain name? This is [http://www.maginrose.com](http://www.maginrose.com)
   or do you mean a different URL?

 * Following on from the previous posts I have checked through all the steps again.
   I can confirm that if I put an html index page on my site then that works – what
   I can’t do is to install WordPress. I have filled in all the information on the
   congig file and uploaded the whole, unzipped WordPress directory onto my website
   under [http://www.maginrose/web/content](http://www.maginrose/web/content) but
   when I then try to open a page [http://www.maginrose.com/web/content/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.maginrose.com/web/content/wp-admin/install.php)
   or [http://www.maginrose.com/web/content/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.maginrose.com/web/content/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php)
   I just get a message saying the link is broken. I have also tried moving the
   contents of the WordPress directory into the main ‘content’ directory as well
   as leaving them in the WordPress directory, neither strategies has worked.
 * If I delete my index.html page then I get a 403 error message which suggests
   to me that my site isn’t recognising any php files – but I don’t know what to
   do about this. My host ‘Laughing Squid’ indicates that it is php compatable and
   my MySQL is set to PHP 5, I am really at a loss as to how to proceed. Any help
   would be greatly appreciated.

 * The URL is [http://www.maginrose.com/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.maginrose.com/wp-admin/install.php)
 * When you upload to /web/content/ that’s what we call your ‘web root’ 🙂

 * ok, so i was running into the same problem over and over again, and finally got
   it resolved!
 * im hosting with laughing squid, but i imagine that most hosts run the same way.
 * if youre getting the 404 error, make sure youre installing it into the correct
   directory.
 * when you log into your site with your FTP, there should be a folder named something
   like [http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com](http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com)
 * in that folder will be a folder called WEB, and a directory in WEB called CONTENT.
   this content folder is where you need to install all of your wordpress files.
 * you can create a subdirectory within /WEB/CONTENT if you like (and its probably
   a good idea.
 * then when you attempt to run the install.php, you simply open your browser and
   go to [http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com/WPDIR/wp-admin/install.com](http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com/WPDIR/wp-admin/install.com)(
   where WPDIR is the subdirectory you uploaded to)
 * everything in the /WEB/CONTENT folder is accessible through your browser. hopefully
   that helps and/or makes sense.
 * good luck!
