 * I am getting an intermittent “Error establishing a database connection” error
on a new blog I’m setting up.
 * I am sure it is not a WordPress issue, but rather a hosting issue. Still, I’m
asking for suggestions here as I have quite a bit of control over the site, but
   little tech support.
 * Here is some of the relevant info.
WordPress version: 2.5 PHP Version: 5.2.2
MySQL Version: 5.0.45 (I have control of the ini file as well the ability to
back up to a 4.x version) Platform: Debian Plugins: Only the packaged ones, Akismet
and Hello Dolly, neither one has been activated.
 * It doesn’t occur all the time, just often enough to make it a nuisance. It occurs
more frequently on the admin side, and just occasionally on the blog itself.

 * I have the same problem too, being intermittent one cannot be blamed for incorrect
   wp-config.php configuration.
 * Here are areas I looked at (in search of a solution):
    1. Permalinks If you changed
anything there, ensure your .htacess file is writeable. 2. URL NEVER change the
   URL from [http://yoursite.com](http://yoursite.com) to [http://www.yoursite.com](http://www.yoursite.com)!
This caused endless hassles, I could not upload Media files etc etc 3. Upgrade
to WP 2.7 I upgraded from2.6.2 and the problem became worse? 4. MYSQL connection
I have read that the problem does not lie on WordPress side, could be a flaky
MYSQL connection? I tried a database repair but no luck? Could the database be
irrevocably damaged? How does one know if the MYSQL connection is unreliable?
I guess this could be checked with the host but would like to know if there is
a way I can check myself?

 * Oh yeah, one more thing :
 * 5. Check those DARN PLUGINS!!
I had a ping optimiser, which I suspect made the
   error connection problem worse.
 * Problem is, there are so many nontangible elements that could lead to the problem,
where does one start if you are not 100% tech savvy?

 * I have narrowed my particular problem down to the upgrade? I restored back to
version 2.6.2 and no more errors? (fingers crossed).
    Can this be?
