Support » Plugin: Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth » Intermittently makes back end inoperable

  • We’ve ended up replacing everything we wanted from Jetpack with the same functionality in other plugins.

Our sites have run into unexpected issues periodically which have been traced back to Jetpack. Most recently, wp-admin became virtually unusable on all of our Jetpack-enabled WordPress sites due to 504 gateway timeouts. This was the final push to make us realize that we don’t really need this plugin and that it’s doing more harm than good.

    I wouldn’t recommend this plugin.

Hello, there. Thanks for leaving a review.

The best first step in this situation is to reach out to your webhost to have them check their PHP error logs to see what precisely is causing the 504 errors. They should be able to locate the issue and possibly even fix it for you after finding the source. Generally, 504 errors happen because there is something not quite right with the resources on a server, or something is taking up too many resources.

Generally, Jetpack is low on the resources it needs to work, but conflicts can happen, of course. If you’d ever like to try using Jetpack again, we would be happy to help you troubleshoot these issues if your host finds a direct link to Jetpack rather than an issue with your overall resources.
