 * The previous version did not give out Internal Server Error but once updated
   to version 1.3, it just gives out the Internal Server Error and nothing will
   do except to delete the plugin and/or put back the version 1.2 of the plugin.

 * Hi Stevie, sorry for the late reply. I’ve just checked the code and I can’t see
   an error in that line, however I have a vague memory of fixing an error like
   it after I’d saved and tested the file. I can’t see my commit logs but possibly
   the error was committed but then fixed within minutes. I guess you were pretty
   quick to upgrade!
 * If possible do you want to try it again and let me know if it’s okay for you
   now? The new plugin version isn’t a security update as such although it does
   stop people viewing the file directly, but it’s been upgraded for multisite use
   and more efficient admin use especially if you potentially have people who can
   upgrade plugins but not the core files.
 * I’ll follow this topic so will get a notification if/when you can check on it.
   I have it running on a few client sites and have no issue on those but it’s always
   good to check more!
 * Thanks 🙂

 * Hi Sarah,
 * Thank you for the reply.
    I could not do the update until the weekend night as
   the client will be mad if they find out during the day time.
 * Anyways, I’ve done the update to 1.3 and still have the 500 error going on.

 * Here’s the error after the update. Still the same thing.
 * “PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /var/www/html/news/wp-content/
   plugins/hide-update-reminder/hide-update-reminder.php on line 23”
 * Also, the system does not allow the “Options” usage in the htaccess. Which may
   be causing the error.
 * Another thought maybe due to the hosting using old outdated php and mysql as
   you’ve mentioned in your 1.3 readme file as “Modernised the PHP code in use”.

 * Hi Stevie,
 * The error is being caused because the site is using an old version of PHP and
   I updated the markup to bring it more up to date and how I tend to code. I’ve
   created a backwards compatibility version on GitHub but I’m having trouble getting
   it updated on the repository. If you want to download and try out v1.3.1 from
   [https://github.com/SarahA21/WP-HideUpdateReminder/releases](https://github.com/SarahA21/WP-HideUpdateReminder/releases)
   it would be great to know it’s definitely okay too as I have no access to a server
   with PHP 5.3 or less on. Although I’m pretty confident it should be fine now.
 * Thanks

 * Just a further update to this. I’ve finally managed to get the plugin to update
   in the WordPress repository, so you should be able to just update as normal.
