• After I installed an RSS feed plugin, I can no longer access my admin control panel or the public site. I’ve searched your forums and found lots of people with the same problem but I can’t find a solution that I understand. I don’t know what I am doing here. Please help!

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

  • Hi KE5ZRT,

The 500 server error is so vague, it throws most people off. With WordPress it’s usually your .htaccess file. Try renaming your .htaccess file and see if that brings your site and wp-admin log in page back up. If it does, once you are in your dashboard, try temporarily changing and saving your Permalinks and then changing it back to your current Permalinks settings and save again.

Let me know if this helps, I hope it does!

Is that done through FTP (Filezilla)? What about disabling my plugins, could that help? I’ve never done any of this so I have a lot to learn!

FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) and delete RSS plugin’s folder in wp-content/plugins.

Thanks for the quick response from both of you. Now I just have to learn how to use FTP!

    Hi KE5ZRT,

If you’re running windows, I would suggest trying FileZilla. It’s easy to install and you can use the quick connect from the main screen. Most users can install and connect to their site in just 5-10 minutes.

Most web hosts will also provide a tool (like cPanel for example) that includes a built-in File Manager.

Yes, disabling plugins is one of the recommended troubleshooting steps we use. Sometimes it’s not just any one plugin but a combination of plugins that can cause an issue.

Hope this helps you get things back up and running.
