# IP Range Lockouts

 * When I get a sustained attacked from a user, I tend to block an IP range – does
   this only block access to the backend? Could someone within that range, stil,
   for example, submit a form from the website?

 * When an IP range is locked out, users or bots communicating from that range can
   no longer communicate with your site over HTTP/HTTPS whether that be directly
   in the browser or making a WordPress API request.
 * If you wish to lengthen the period you block these attacks out to prevent them
   trying again too soon, you’ll find the **“Amount of time a user is locked out”**
   value in **Wordfence > All Options > Brute Force Protection** useful.
