# Is codex down?

 * I am trying for sometime to access codex – [http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page](http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page)
   without success.
 * Or is it simply overloaded?

 * While the code server is temporarily down (and work underway to fix it), you 
   can still get access to articles and information you need, though not as “pretty”.
 * When Google crawls through the site, they make a “cached” version or copy of 
   the page. Using Google, search for what you are looking for on the Codex and 
   then choose the **cached** link to see the article information.
 * Isn’t that handy?

 * …please… the time and effort she just put in to dropping by my site just to give
   me some hints and stuff was so great. I really appreciate each and every word
   that she wrote..
    but that google thing.. umm yeah you are right better something
   then nothing at all. ….and just when I was going for the archive tags nest..

 * The Codex software was undergoing a routine upgrade. Sorry. Next time we should
   make an annoucement.
 * I found today that the Google Cache method took FOREVER to come up, but finally
   did when I needed some Codex pages. That was odd, it usually works much faster,
   but that’s a Google problem, not Codex.
 * Still, I’m glad that people are starting to rely upon it as a resource. It’s 
   taken a lot of hard work to gather information and volunteers to write and edit
   the documentation for it. It’s all volunteer and if you want to help, we could
   sure [use you!!!!](http://codex.wordpress.org/Codex:Contributing).

 * Volunteering sounds good, but if you aren’t familiar with the interface, it’s
   is a bit daunting to step into.

 * Even if you aren’t familiar with the interface, anyone can join the [wp-docs mailing list](http://codex.wordpress.org/Codex:Contributing)
   and let the other volunteers know that you want to contribute an article and 
   we’ll take it from there. Or just start a user page and paste in the information(
   please let us know on the mailing list) and we’ll come in and fix it all up for
   you and give it a nice “home” on the Codex.
 * It is actually much easier than you imagine. There isn’t any HTML or much to 
   learn. Just write it out with some section titles and we can do the rest. We 
   have a nice group of editors who just edit and not contribute, so they are always
   looking for new material to fix up. And new editors to help them.
 * We have a lot of holes in the documentation that need filling, and we’re looking
   for help, so if you are interested, please volunteer. And if you are nervous 
   or intimidated, we do hand holding on the IRC Chat for #wp-docs. 😉

 * You know, I want to say after spending some time reading through the Codex, that
   it really is well-written and well-put-together and there’s a lot of good design
   information there that isn’t specific to WP.
 * My only complaint is that I’m unable to do printer-friendly pages without images(
   some of the articles have images embeded), but really that’s not a big deal.
 * I am printing up everything I think I’m going to need to work on my new blog 
   design while on the plane this weekend. Somehow I don’t think they will have 
   wi-fi on independence air. 😉
