 * For the last few days I have been hearing from my client about problems with
   Event registrations. Today she hears from a customer that they are getting an
   error when they try to register for an event.
 * This behaviour happens on several browsers: Chrome, IE, FireFox and Safari
    My
   Client (on a Mac) and her customer (on a PC) have Javascript and cookies enabled.
   And both can reproduce this error.
 * The error comes up as soon as they click the submit on the registration form

   Here is the error: [code] `ERROR: Sorry, there was an error. Please be sure JavaScript
   and Cookies are enabled in your browser and try again.`
 * The url at the time this happens looks like this...

 * That error text is not something rendered by eme, so you might need to look elsewhere
   in this case.

 * Three days ago eme was working fine. Over the last three days you’ve released
   as many updates or patches. Do you really wish me to believe there is no correlation
   at all?
 * Just because eme is not “generating” the error message (i.e., you did not find
   that specific error text in your code), could it be that your code creates an
   environment that falsely signals the need to enable Javascript or cookies when
   the browser does have that very setting?

 * There is no correlation.
    Next time, try googling the error first: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-posting-comments?replies=10](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-posting-comments?replies=10)
 * That thread is telling the same thing as I am.
    “ Deactivate them all, then test…
   if things work activate them one at a time testing to see if the problem returns
   as you go. “ And look at this thread too, telling the same thing again: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/javascript-error-after-submiting-contact-form?replies=3](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/javascript-error-after-submiting-contact-form?replies=3)

 * OK, thanks for your patience. I will look into this over this weekend and get

 * No, it just “magically” went away. Problem disappeared with no action on my part.

 * It’s doing the Javascript & Cookies thing again. I’ll be tackling this on Sunday.
   Please leave unresolved until I get in touch with you on Tuesday. Thanks

 * Hi there,
    I notice that Sonfisher also had WP Spam shield installed (I have
   version 1.9.8.8) and was having the same problem as I’m experiencing.
 * Having deactivated this plug-in, EME started working perfectly again
 * Any ideas why we would have this conflict? I get huge amounts of spam, and would
   like to have both working!
 * Thanks,
 * Jeremy

 * I have found the solution to this, within WP-Spamshield
    In their settings there’s
   a tickbox called “Disable anti-spam for miscellaneous forms.” Tick this, and
   it stops blocking the Paypal payment gateway and receipt page. Hope this helps
   somebody else! Jeremy

 * Although weird, wp-spamshield says on their ‘known issues’ page this:
 *     ```
       Some front-end anti-spam plugins, including CAPTCHA’s, challenge questions, etc.

       You should disable all CAPTCHAs when using WP-SpamShield. There’s no longer a need for them, and these could likely conflict. (Back-end anti-spam plugins like Akismet are fine, although unnecessary.)
       ```
 * So, if using wp-spamshield, try not using the captcha in EME (if you’re using
   it), maybe that already solves the problem.
    I’m going to check out wp-spamshield
   this evening myself, and see what it does to my captcha 🙂
 * FYI: just installed wp-spamshield with all the default options as-is and for
   the dev-version of EME it seems to pose no problems at all (with or without EME
   captcha).
    So maybe you could try the EME dev-version?
 * I was having exactly the same issue with Form Maker. Just tried deactivating
   wp-spamshield and the problem has gone away.
