 * Out of nowhere, I noticed that my site was loading extremely slow. Attempting
   to find the culprit, I began disabling plugins.
 * As it turns out, Jetpack was causing httpd to go crazy, causing a server “load
   average” of 30-40 and above. Disabling it fixed the problem instantly.
 * Since using Jetpack is the only way to get WP-Stats now, I would like to keep
   the plugin. Has anyone come across this issue?
 * The odd part is, it seemed to work find for months, this just happened out of
   the blue, with no changes on my part.

 * Did you try disabling all Jetpack options except stats?
 * Also could you let us have more info: server activity logs
 * (You can use [pastebin.com](http://pastebin.com/) or your site to upload a large
   files and lnk to it from here)

 * Actually I found out that there was an error with my server setup. The reason
   Jetpack seemed to be the cause is because it causes more disk IO and server load
   than any other plugin.
 * I still want to disable everything but the stats, but the interface is pretty
   crappy and I’m not sure if that’s even possible.
 * Unfortunate, because I really like the wordpress.com stats engine. Too bad they
   tacked it to Jetpack.

 * Server config error makes sense… Wonder who you’re hosting with.
 * It’s not difficult to de-activate modules – just not intuitive!
 * Click the “Learn More” button on each module – when the info panel opens, a **
   Deactivate** button appears next to the Learn More button

 * I have had the same problem – WP is dog slow when I’m logged in (I’ve tried loading
   the site when I’m not logged in, e.g. by using a Chrome incognito window, and
   it loads fine). The problem is intermittent – it will go hours without any problems,
   and then it will take ages to load anything, and often end up loading no actual
   content – it will load headers, but no website content and it will say 0 entries,
   comments etc.
 * This problem started in 2011, and I fixed it then by disabling what was then
   called the WP Stats plugin and Gravater (all Automattic features, in fact, except
   Akismet). Then they integrated that into Jetpack. More recently the intermittent
   slowness problem has reappeared with a vengeance. Looks like deactivating that
   service will be the only way to stop this problem. Unless, of course, Automattic
   fix whatever it is that’s making people’s sites slow.

 * I’ve just started using the Jetpack plugin but with reservations about the performance.
   If your website has to rely on any external resources then you are taking a risk.
   You have to rely on that external resource to be 100% reliable to guarantee that
   your own website wont be affected.
 * This issue adds weight to the argument against using plugins like this.
    I’ll
   be looking for an alternative as this is type of situation is bad for a business
   website. Perhaps not so much for personal pages.
 * If there’s a method of running Jetpack locally without using external APIs then
   it would be a much better solution

 * You can use Jetpack’s development mode to run Jetpack locally, and use all the
   modules that don’t require a connection to WordPress.com. You can read more about
   it here:

 * Lately, load time has increased severely with Jetpack taking up to 4 seconds
   to load. It’s awful because i’m using it on over 40 sites. Best to stop adding
   features and concentrate on making it quicker.

 * [@wickedmike](https://wordpress.org/support/users/wickedmike/) Would you mind
   trying to [deactivate all Jetpack modules](http://jetpack.me/support/#turn-off-jetpack-modules),
   one at a time, and let me know if one specific module seems to create the problem?
 * Could you also check your server’s error logs? It might help us figuring out
   what’s wrong with Jetpack on your server.
 * Thanks!

 * I go to reasonable lengths to keep my site fast but I also love some of the features.
   I am careful to only have the modules that I want to use enabled.
 * Stats of one of the modules I like to keep an eye on. I also have Google Analytics
   but Jetpack Stats are easier to access along with other site checks.
 * However, [https://stats.wordpress.com/e-201341.js](https://stats.wordpress.com/e-201341.js)
   has the longest load time of any other aspect of my homepage. Longer than photos,
   longer than much much longer html, js, jquery, css etc.
 * My homepage on this pingdom check ([http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/d985YP/https://woodworkingmasterclasses.com](http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/d985YP/https://woodworkingmasterclasses.com))
   took 890ms to load the stats query to wordpress.com took 752ms.
 * Why does it take so long?
 * One simple reason is that this particular subdomain of wordpress.com is secured
   with a godaddy ssl certificate. The ssl ‘handshake’ alone takes 213ms.
 * Simply upgrading the ssl certificate of the stats.wordpress.com to something
   quicker like GlobalSign would probably bring down this load time by a third.
 *  _I love Jetpack.
    Please make it faster. Start with a faster ssl provider.

 * @joesell89 Thanks for the report. I forwarded this to our Systems team and asked
   them to have a look.
 * Note that this problem is not related to the other issues mentioned in this thread
   though. To those of you having issues with server load when Jetpack is enabled,
   could you try to deactivate all Jetpack modules, one at a time, so we can figure
   the module at fault on your site?
 * Thanks!

 * @joesell89 One of my colleagues had a look at the issue; while there should not
   be speed differences between different SSL certificates, it turns out that our
   certificate contained anchors, so it was unnecessarily large. We fixed that issue,
   it saves one RTT during the SSL handshake. That should speed things up a bit!

 * I, too, have noticed some load time issues with my site. I ran P3 Plugin Profiler
   and obtained these results. This seems awfully high.

 * [@roppolo](https://wordpress.org/support/users/roppolo/) When running the P3
   Plugin, you’ll want to look at loading time, not percentages. You will also want
   to compare the results of the tests with the number of elements that each plugin
   adds to the frontend of your site.
 * 0.2871s. seems reasonable to me, depending on how many modules are active and
   how many elements you’ve added to your site.
