 * I’ve creating this new post upon request from Ryan Cowles at [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/register_http_request_failed-34?replies=2#post-7813047](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/register_http_request_failed-34?replies=2#post-7813047).
Sorry for the misunderstanding about the forum rules.
    __________
 * The URL of the site is [http://apps.pathology.jhu.edu/sfanos](http://apps.pathology.jhu.edu/sfanos),
and I am the administrator of the Linux server on which it runs, so I have complete
access to anything that is needed.
 * The xmlrpc.php page on this site appears to be working properly. When I go to
   [http://apps.pathology.jhu.edu/sfanos/xmlrpc.php](http://apps.pathology.jhu.edu/sfanos/xmlrpc.php),
I receive a single line in response: “XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.”
Additionally, there is no indication in the Apache log files that this request
   generates a 403 error.
 * To address the other points, for security reasons, I do not run an FTP server,
and the Jetpack plug-in is the only one that is enabled on this site.

 * Thanks for the additional information! It seems like Jetpack’s connection attempt
is timing out. I tried to cURL your XML-RPC file with the following command:
   `
   curl -i -H 'Content-Type: text/xml' --data '<?xml version="1.0"?><methodCall>
   <methodName>demo.sayHello</methodName><params></params></methodCall>' 'http://
   apps.pathology.jhu.edu/sfanos/xmlrpc.php' && echo`
 * And it returned the following error:
`curl: (56) Recv failure: Operation timed
   out`
 * Can you check to make sure you have cURL installed on your server, and let me
   know which version you have?

 * Thanks, Ryan, you’ve provided the magic elixir. I used your curl command and
saw that it worked as long as the request came from inside the corporate firewall,
but it failed when the request came from outside. After a discussion with our
network security team, I learned that such requests are blocked. I was, however,
able to find a work-around, and now Jetpack is registered. Thanks for your help!
