 * Hi
 * I’ve been using Optimus HQ for a year now in conjunction with Lightroom. I wanted
   to ask for some guidance on image compression settings.
 * I have been exporting images from Lightroom with a 70 percent quality setting
   and then running Optimus after the images have been uploaded. I thought I would
   try setting the quality at 90 and leaving Optimus to do most of the work, but
   I’ve been surprised that the file size reductions are only about 10 percent.
   So my question is – can you give any guidance on how Optimus works in conjunction
   with traditional jpeg compression?
 * Thanks for your help.

 * Optimus losslessly optimizes your image which means that it removes unnecessary
   meta information in order to reduce your image’s file size without degrading
   the image’s quality. When you are exporting your JPEG images via Lightroom, you
   are using lossy compression which is removing data from the original file in
   order to decrease its size further.
 * Therefore, whether you set the quality setting at 90% or 70% there is still metadata
   in both cases which Optimus is able to remove. The amount of compression Optimus
   is able to achieve will depend on how much metadata a particular image contains.
 * I’d suggest reading more on Lossy vs Lossless compression here: [https://optimus.keycdn.com/support/lossy-vs-lossless/](https://optimus.keycdn.com/support/lossy-vs-lossless/)

 * Hi Cody
 * Thanks. That makes sense. I had forgotten that Optimus was lossless compression.
