 * Hi, love the plugin but using jquery means a whole bunch of code gets loaded 
   that isn’t needed. A lot of plugin makers are making their plugins leaner by 
   manually coding the javascript needed and this is that last plugin on my site
   that uses jquery.
 * It would be really appreciated if you’d consider removing it altogether – though
   I know it’s a good amount of work.

 * WordPress Popular Posts dropped the jQuery dependency back in May 2018 (see [version 4.1.0 changelog](https://github.com/cabrerahector/wordpress-popular-posts/releases/tag/4.1.0)).
   At least on the frontend side of things, it does still use it on the backend.
 * If you’re using version 4.0.13 or older then please upgrade to the latest version.
