• Hi everyone,

A while ago I stopped being able to update my blog posts / pages and publish them. I keep getting the error ‘Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.’

I’ve googled the issue and tried lots of different things: deactivating all plugins, particularly Gutenberg; using the Classic Editor works *until* I add an image to my post, then the error shows up again. My blog is for my portfolio so I definitely need images to work, so this fix isn’t really one for me.

I’ve changed permalinks, updated the .htaccess file,… basically everything in this article (https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-the-invalid-json-error-in-wordpress-beginners-guide/).

It seems that this is an issue that can be caused by a million different things, since different solutions have worked for different people, so I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks a lot!

What was done at the site before this error showed up?

Nothing at all, actually – I’m pretty sure it happened after a WordPress update, because I hadn’t changed my website at all for a few months, and then suddenly when I did try to update it it didn’t work. But I didn’t add anything incredibly complex, no big plug-ins or anything; it’s a pretty straightforward website. Just text, images, external and internal links, the like.
