• Above the selection of header banners at Customize / Header / Header design, it says:

“While you can crop images to your liking after clicking Add new image, your theme recommends a header size of 1380 × 280 pixels.”

Just wondering, why 280? I used a header banner 160px deep on my site and everything seems to work, but am now wondering if there is something I am missing.

  • Hi adieu. I don’t know that there’s a specific reason other than the developer might feel that 280px is a good proportionate height in relationship to the site width with two sidebars. The header will expand to accommodate any height image up to the theme max-height default of 400px, which you could change using custom CSS. Personally I think your site looks great the way the banner flows into the navigation and sidebar headings. If you pushed it down any further I think there would be too much open space at the top. Just my $.02 worth.
