• Hello,
    I just installed the Adaptive Images plugin and went to save the settings, but each time I do so I get an error message. I’m just following the suggested settings – not sure if I should adjust? I debugged and it advised as follows:

    ✔ PHP GD library is installed.
    ✖ Image cache directory has not been created.
    But this is probably because the cache has not been accessed yet.
    After accessing your website from a mobile device the directory should be automatically created.
    . => drwxr-xr-x
    ✖ Installation .htaccess file is not properly setup.
    /home/kathleen/public_html/.htaccess => -rw-r–r–
    ❖ Adaptive images settings dump:
    bool(false)

    My site is kathleenmurphy.com.au –> any help or advice is appreciated!
    Thanks,

    Hello, Kathleen,

    Thank for trying out our plugin and contacting us!

    First of all the default settings should work fine in a usual WordPress installation. Now your problem is the lines that say:

    ✖ Installation .htaccess file is not properly setup.
    /home/kathleen/public_html/.htaccess => -rw-r–r–

    ❖ Adaptive images settings dump:
    bool(false)

    It seems that your settings are not saved at all yet. You could help me debug it by sending me the output of the Print debug and Print diagnostics button in the plugin settings page.

    Cheers,
    Takis

    Hmm, all seems correct here!

    When you actually try to save the plugin settings, do you get any error messages at all?

    (@yourhealthyourlife)

    When I try to save, the same server error comes up each time. Have cut and pasted below. As there has been no other issue with my site, my internet etc, I had assumed it was related to the plugin. Does this offer you any more insight?

    Oh, OK, so at least it comes as no surprise that the plugin settings are not set. Now we need to do some debugging! Are you up for it? We need to figure out why the this “500” error occurs when you try to save the plugin settings.

    Is it possible that you may have any error logs available?

    Cheers,
    Takis

    (@yourhealthyourlife)

    Possibly! Can you advise where I would find error logs? Thanks.

    Plugin Author Takis Bouyouris

    (@nevma)

    You should search for files named “error_log”:

    • in the root directory of your WordPress installation
    • in the /wp-content directory of your WordPress installation
    • in the plugin directory

    I cannot say for sure where these files may be, because this depends of your host. Also you can search for a “logs” anywhere in the above places, too!

    If you cannot find anything then I am afraid you are going to have to ask your host about it, if they can help!

    Thread Starter yourhealthyourlife

    (@yourhealthyourlife)

    Ok thanks I’m just trying to work out if I can find any error logs, but it seems not. I will also check with the host. Will be back in touch!

    Alright then, perhaps the logs could give us a lead to search. The “500” error are the trickiest ones! Maybe there is an area in your control panel (CPanel perhaps?) where the logs are available as well…
