# Keeping Old Posts

 * When we republish a post it overwrites the content and the old post is no where
   to be found. Is there a setting or a way to keep the back copies? Or at least
   a certain number of back copies?
 * We rewrite and republish our Weekend Planner each Wednesday and I need to be
   able to save the previous four copies, but I can’t figure out a way to do that.
 * This also becomes important when each year we write a Summer Bucket List for
   example and want to make it different each year. It would be incredibly helpful
   to be able to look back at the previous couple years to make sure we are taking
   a new angle.
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fkeeping-old-posts-2%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Hi [@aretzer](https://wordpress.org/support/users/aretzer/)
 * When you click the _Rewrite & Republish_ button, a new duplicated version of
   your original post is created. Once you edit the duplicated version and after
   you’re done, your duplicated post will be merged into the original post. This
   is expected and the correct behavior.
 * If you would like to keep the previous copies, you may try to use the _clone_
   or _new draft_ option. Simply click the _Clone_ button to make a copy of that
   specific post or page. Click the _New Draft_ link to copy that post or page and
   open it in the editor right away.

 * Thanks- I understand how it works. I’m just wondering if there’s a way to choose
   a setting that will keep all old versions instead of losing whatever is written
   over.

 * Hi
 * Kindly head to WordPress dashboard > Settings > Yoast duplicate post > Display
   > Show original item.
 * If you choose to rewrite and republish, put the checkmark for _In a metabox in
   the Edit screen_. Save the setting. So, when you click on rewrite & republish
   and you are editing the post, look at the bottom right corner, you can see the
   original item before you hit rewrite & republish.
 * Are you trying to find the revisions?
