Hoping I can get some answers here.

I use both WooCommerce and WooCommerce Blocks on my website. And after having updated these two following the email regarding the vulnerability issue, the blocks stopped working… in that where the blocks are supposed to show on my page, it is an error message instead, which runs: “The response is not a valid JSON response”.

Unfortunately I don’t have a screenshot or a page to show you what it looks like as my hosting provider has reverted the updates. It’s working now but I was told I had to leave these two plugins as is (meaning not updating them).

I just want to know if there might be implications of not updating them, of if I have to update them, how can I rectify the error with the blocks?

I have tried deactivating and reactivating plugins to no avail. Same for changing permalink structure.

    Best,
    Vi

  • Hi Vi,

It’s best if you create a staging environment where you can run the site and troubleshoot from there.

Once you do that enable DEBUG mode and then see what the issues are with the latest plugins. It’s possible it’s a theme or another plugin that’s conflicting but you will only know once you create the staging environment.

As to your question about being vulnerable. Yes, you are if you are using the version before the latest. So I would troubleshoot in staging as soon as you can.

Once you see the errors, then you can post them back here as well as a system status report by going to WooCommerce > Status > Get System Report > Copy > Paste it here between code brackets.

    Thank you.

    Hi Stef,

Thank you for your response. I created a staging site and updated all plugins there and got no issues. So I went and updated the plugins on my live site and now everything works perfectly.

No idea what magic has been performed through this process but I’m super chuffed 😀 .

    Thank you very much.

Awesome. Sometimes when updating a plugin might not finish it’s process and can cause an issue. But I’m glad you’re rocking now.

    Have a good one 🤗
