Hello – I’m working on a site that uses Spotlight and and I’m having some issues that I hope you can help me with:

    i) the lightbox popup doesn’t always load the resource ie leaves a blank white/grey box
ii) some thumbs are broken images, some are fine
iii) sometimes doesn’t show the latest post even for an extended period and even after attempts to clear cache

These issues occur both on the front end and the admin preview.I am on wordpress 5.6 and Spotlight 0.5.2.

To try and solve the issue, I made 2 copies of this site (on a different host):

    Copy 1: https://wordpress-396878-1674131.cloudwaysapps.com/
    Copy 2: https://wordpress-396878-1674434.cloudwaysapps.com/philadelphia-freelance-photographer-and-videographer-dave-tavani-about-bio/

Copy 1 is an exact copy of the live site (same theme, plugins and settings) and works as expected (all posts, all thumbs work, all lightboxes work)
Copy 2 is the same as Copy 1 but with all other plugins deactivated and Twenty Twenty One theme – this shows one less post, has one broken thumb and shows a blank grey lightbox on one of the posts.

I investigated the broken thumb by inspecting it in chrome and received a URL signature expired error.

It seems that the theme/plugin issues are not the issue but I wondered if you knew how to solve the problem on the live site?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi @foxybkk, we’re happy to help…

    i) We’ve seen this happen on a couple of sites lately and the cause has been expired links to the Instagram images. We’re working on a better way to handle this within Spotlight itself, but for now, you may try clearing the plugin cache from Instagram Feeds > Settings > Tools. Then, edit the Instagram feed in question and it will re-fetch the Instagram posts. This will fix the issue (it may take a few seconds to re-fetch the posts the first time you edit the feed after clearing the cache – don’t leave the page while this is happening).

ii) Likewise, clearing your cache should resolve this issue. If it happens again after that, please let me know and we’ll take a closer look.

iii) This may be due to your WordPress site’s cron system having some of its crons stuck at some points in time. We’ve seen it happen in the past too and unfortunately, it’s down to the fact that the WordPress cron system is not very reliable. If it persists, please reach out here and provide some more details so we can take a closer look at your site in particular and guide you to the best solution.

The fact that your other test sites didn’t present the same exact problems is further proof that the most likely causes are the expired links I mentioned in point one and the cron issues.

Please keep us updated on how our recommendations work out for you.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks so much for your help – followed your instructions for i/ii and everything seems to be working after that.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Hi Steve, that’s great, thanks for the update.

If you’re happy with Spotlight, would you mind posting a quick positive review for us? It would be a great morale-booster for myself the team 🙂
