Link down page?

Hellow, I am trying to find out how to properly link down the page.
I have included page “contact” I insert link for contact in menu.
Presently I am putting in the contact page, and use #contact for the link.
However I am using single column setup, and this brings the page down to far, it hides the name/page label.
How do I properly link down the page so it shows properly?
