 * Hello Experts and developers,
 * I am 18 years old and new to wordpress, I am currently looking to change my fairly
   new website [http://www.kiwigrind.co.nz](http://www.kiwigrind.co.nz) into a wordpress
   site for both easier editing and plugins (mainly the plugins, gotta love em!).
   This website was a base theme which I have coded new features into in order to
   achieve the current result.
 * Today was my first time setting up and running a localhost server which I intend
   to use for inhouse testing prior to making major changes and I am really happy
   that I got it going! I have an interest in this sort of thing and hope I can
   progress my learning by being able to convert this site.
 * P.S. I tried using the following guide but unfortunatly not a satisfactory result:

   [https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/converting-html-sites-to-wordpress-sites](https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/converting-html-sites-to-wordpress-sites)
 * The above guide end result was just a plain white page (theme did show in the
   selection for activation but nothing shown.)
 * I hope you guys can help, if you require any files I am happy to provide. 🙂
 * Many Thanks,
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Flocalhost-install-wordpress-based-on-current-html-website%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * You have done well creating the present site.
    Its present form is not in the
   usual WordPress form, which may give you some challenges. What I suggest is that
   you transition+develop your site in a few stages. This will present you will
   numerous challenges, considerable learning of many wordpress techniques. If you
   do this in steps (even baby steps) I am sure you will manage this given the skills
   your present website displays. – First choose a theme that essentially provides
   the overall layout you have, a top banner region, a header with horizontal menu,
   full width content, footer. Whichever theme you start with, use it as a parent
   and customise it using the child theme mechanism. Never mind the colours or sizes/
   proportions, you will cutomise this with your css. – Reproduce each of your present
   regions as its own page, so have a separate page for each of home/service/portfolio/
   contact, get each of them working and looking right. – Now develop in your child
   theme a custom page template for your homepage, in it combine all of the elements
   of your working pages, use a shortcode to incorporate the contact form plugin.
 * The following links will be useful:
    creating a child theme [http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)
   shortcodes [https://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode_API](https://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode_API)
   name for the homepage template from: [https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/](https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/)
 * Develop in stages, when you have an issue just start a new thread here.

 * I would google it first for wp themes development resources and some other resources
   like this:

   [https://haloseeker.com/3-tools-help-you-to-convert-html-to-wordpress-theme/](https://haloseeker.com/3-tools-help-you-to-convert-html-to-wordpress-theme/)
 * or maybe even some online tools:
 * [https://htmltowordpress.io/](https://htmltowordpress.io/)
    [http://www.themematcher.com/](http://www.themematcher.com/)
 * Even if you convert it to basic wp theme im sure it would be a lot of adjusting
   and development. I would just take another wp theme which is really similar like
   yours in terms of content alignment, menus, etc and just make it look like your
   original theme using css.

 * Thanks! I tried the automatic conversion tools but they didn’t seem to work and
   if they did, there was a charge attached to it.
 * I am pretty happy as today I managed to recode most of the original theme to
   reach amazing results with hubspot grading tool
 * Take a look if you’re interested: [https://website.grader.com/](https://website.grader.com/)

 * Theme looks grate, good work, simple and elegant I like it.
 * WordPress gives you a lot more functionality i would still at least try to convert
   some similar theme to yours using same css styling.
