• Usually, when you can disable a section (like a bad slider header), you can’t replace that area with your own from a widget or shortcode. Would be super if these theme sections can always have the option to be at least a text widget area or a section for page builder insertions which can usually only start before or under all of the theme’s content before the footer.

Most times there’s just something in a theme you need to get rid of and it makes for a great starter theme. It can happen with other plugins for a slider of course, but why go through that trouble if we could just disable and insert block to that widgetized area.

Or we should be able to inject blocks even between the themes customizer sections.

  • The theme defines the widget areas and where they are output, so there’s not a generic solution to what you describe, and it doesn’t even apply to all themes.
WP 5.8 and beyond will have a more block oriented approach, and the new block themes won’t have widget areas at all.
