 * Hi,
    The boxes with the gray background you are seeing are actually images, so
   just create transparent images or images with the background color you want. 
   Does this make sense? If you need more help, please post a link to your site.

 * It makes sense and I’ve done this with other parts of sites, i.e. sliders. However,
   I’m not sure where to edit this in my child theme. Do you know what lines I would
   need to change in the parent theme?

 * Try to avoid making those changes to the Parent Theme. Instead you’ll want to
   make those updates in the Child Theme CSS. You’ll want to use a development tool
   to see what CSS code to update, I recommend using “Firebug” for Firefox.
