   give out their email?

 * Unforunately not without custom code as EDD requires at least the email of a 
   visitor to create a Customer account so that purchases/subscriptions and even
   the download history can be tied to a specific user.

 * Why capture the customer’s email, if I dont allow the creation of user accounts
   on my site. Is it for the purpose of sending out receipts?

 * Hey there,
 * In EDD every purchase, even if no actual WordPress user is created, a purchase
   record (Downloads > Payment History) is created for the transaction and also 
   a Customer record. Its required so that the plugin can keep track of a Customer’s
   purchases, subscriptions, etc.
 * Sending out the receipts is also one requirement as without an email on the account
   that feature can not work.

 * I understand that. Would it be possible to make it optional to track their email?
   Maybe just track a Customer ID? Or no need to track any details about the costumer
   at all? (Speaking in the context of free downloads)

 * Sorry for the delay here. The minimum field that EDD requires is the email field
   during checkout. Anything else besides that would require custom code.
