 * I’m using WordPress 3.0 with multi-user turned on. My web host (nearlyfreespeech.
   net) does not allow wildcard subdomains, so I understand that I have to do this
   manually. I have read about having to have a dedicated IP address, but I don’t
   believe I have one. I have created the subdomain through my hosting account,
   and I have created the blog through WordPress, and they are both sitename.website.
   com. However, nothing shows up. How do I connect these two? (I understand that
   this setup will not work for letting others register blogs, but this website
   is just for me, and I wouldn’t mind doing this for every new site I would make,
   just as long as I know how! 🙂
 * Thanks for your help in advance.

 * When you say “nothing shows up”, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean you get
   a blank page? Do you get an “Under Construction” message? Do you get your regular
   website? What do you see? That will help us diagnose the issue.

 * I get Chrome’s default “couldn’t find this page” one.
 * Thanks!

 * So I waited a little longer and just kept trying– and it worked! Weird. I’ll
   try to do it with my other subdomains, but I think it ought to work now. I had
   to make a few changes to my hosting setup, but it’s going well so far.
 * Thanks for helping!

 * No problem. Good luck.
 * Sometimes, manually setting up a new domain name (or even a new subdomain) can
   take anywhere from 1-24 hours to fully work.

 * No, you don’t have to have a dedicated IP. Some HOSTS require it, but WordPress
   does not.

 * Of note, you have to point your subdomain to the same folder as your wp-config.
   php file (so if that’s in /home/foobar/public_html then you point the subdomain
   to that location).
 * And yea, sometimes it takes a while for things to catch up DNS wise. It can take
   a maximum of 72 hours. At that point, if it doesn’t show up, you screwed up 🙂
