# Max comment length

 * Hello, is there a way to set up a maximum comment length? Recently I received
   a couple of VERY lengthy comments, that made my sidebar crashing (i.e. disappearing).
   
   Thanks for your help.

 * Why is this crashing your sidebar ?
    I have seen sites with comments I would 
   class as book chapters, so I would suggest it’s a theme / plugin / changed code
   problem.

 * I’m using Semiologic 2.5.4. After those comments, the sidebar disapperared. I
   have removed those 2 comments, and the sidebar came back…I made a cut and paste
   of them on Word: a total of 56 pages, Verdana 10 points. Actually, something 
   very similar to a book chapter…!

 * It could be that the comment authors wrote their tomes in something like Word,
   and that the copy/paste has carried bad characters across – there will be nothing
   at all wrong with your theme / code.
 * Try pasting their comments into notepad++ or another plain text-editor then saving
   them out, then pasting them as comments. If you have such verbose commenters 
   now, it’s important we discover how they can contribute without fear of breaking
   things.
