Menu Sub-items Not Working
-
Hi all,
Whenever I add a page to my primary menu as a sub-item (under another page) and click Save Menu, the sub-item jumps to the left and becomes a top-level page. I tried different themes, all had the same problem. What could be causing this? Please help! Thank you.

When you add an item below another, are you also dragging it slightly to the right so it appears indented?
See the screenshot at http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide#Creating_Multi-level_Menus
Of course, and then as soon as I click SAVE MENU, the sub-item jumps left so it’s no longer indented,
What theme are you using, and where did you download it from?
I’m using Twenty Twelve with no modifications at all. I tried Twenty Thirteen but the problem is the same.
Hm, both should work. When you add the menu items, you make sure they are indented to the right slightly, but when you save they snap back to the left?
If that is indeed the case, try deactivating all of your currently active plugins, yes all of them, and see if that makes a difference.
If it works with all plugins deactivated, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
Tried doing this too, didn’t work.
With all plugins deactivated, using the Twenty Thirteen theme, you drag an item below another menu item slightly to the right, save, and it snaps back to the left?
I can’t reproduce the problem myself, which leads me to believe the problem is either related to your installation or browser.
If you really did have all plugins deactivated, try with the Twenty Fourteen theme, just to rule-out any theme-specific issue.
If that doesn’t work, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the
wp-config.phpfile and the/wp-content/directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.If doubt it’s the browser, but if neither of the above worked, first please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Solved! It was a browser issue. Apparently Internet Explorer has this problem even though I use no add-ons or extensions. I downloaded Chrome and it works fine. Thanks very much for your help.
Perfect, it’s weird quirks like that (with more than just WordPress) that cause me to never use IE. 🙂
You’re welcome!
