You cant. There is no personal message system on this site. Everything is public and in these forums.

where do i go to adjust my profile as I wish to change my avatar but all i get is gravatar which is a real pain.

Sorry, but that’s done through Gravatar. That’s where all of the avatars on this site come from.

You dont. Signatures end up being way to SPAM’y pretty much everywhere. If you try to use a “fake” one (adding your own signature text to ever post you do) you’ll quickly run afoul of the moderators here.

For these answers, I’m assuming that you’re running some sort of social networking of forums plugin (eg: BuddyPress, BBPress, etc).

That depends on which plugin you’re using. BudyPress has things like that built in, and I think that BBPress has something like that as well, but I haven’t used that for so long I couldn’t tell you. Anything that relates to either of those plugins would be best of faksed in their respective support forums (BuddyPress, BBPress).

That’s the same answer. It’s all taken care of by Gravatar unless you want to use a different avatar plugin. Your theme might also have that sort of functionality, so it’s worth looking at.
