 * I have spent HOURS on the phone with tech support at godaddy. They are completely
stumpted. Here lies my problem: On my user dashboard I am missing buttons… I
do not have a plugin button nor do I have a appearance button. We have troubleshooted
this inside out and backwords. Tried completely removing WP and reinstalling,
we tried coding ect. In the end, I’m still left missing these CRUCIAL parts of
my WP. I am so frustrated! ANY ideas or suggestions??

 * Hi, I don’t use godaddy but I can recommend using an ftp client and overwrite
wp-admin (you can get it from over [here](http://wordpress.org/latest.zip).)

   This should work…

 * Ok we have already tried the overwrite. I have also tried disabling all of the
plugins to see if that was the issue. Nothing.

 * EDIT: also, can you share a link to your site?
 * Switch to the default theme, if that doesn’t work: try other browsers, clear
   cache and cookies.
Let me know how things are after this, Regards

 * How do I switch to the default theme if I have no appearance button??
 * I have also tried accessing this on several over browsers, no difference. Same
   with clearing cache and cookies.

 * To switch to the default theme just rename/delete the other themes leaving only
the default themes unchanged, I’ll be waiting for you to postback the result,

 * Do you have more than one account set up on the site? ie – one for admin & one
with a lesser role? if you are signed in with a role that doesn’t have access
to the appearance & plugin menu items you won’t see them.

 * Ok, in renaming the themes… I attempted to do so and the only theme it will allow
on is the “chameleon” theme. When attempting to set any of the others my dashboard
comes up with a error that says “Error the themes directory is either empty or
does not exist. Please check your installation.”
 * As far as I know there is only one account set up on the site. The only log in
   is mine.

 * Do you have a users menu? Look at ‘all users’ & it will tell you what users are
setup & their roles – to confirm that the account you are logged in with is an
administrator & there are no additional unexpected accounts. Also check that
the totals at the top for number of users & administrators tallys with the accounts
   listed on that page.

 * It probably means that the default themes are missing from the themes folder,
have you seen them when when you connected with the ftp client? you can overwrite
them also using as source the files that you downloaded when you downloaded wordpress.

 * I do not have a users menu.
 * Yes, I can see the folders within my ftp client. I will try the overwrite again
and see if that will do the trick.
 * PS thanks a MILLION for all of your support and patience 🙂

 * I would suggest inspecting the [prefix]users & [prefix]usersmeta tables in the
database using PphMyAdmin or other db tool to check that your account is still
the only user still has the administrator role.

 * Ok, In searching the PphMyAdmin…. The first line is first name, second line last
name, third line nickname. All of the meta values on the right next to this first
is blank, second is blank, third reads admin. With the user meta id being 1 as
well as the user id as being one. Then at the very BOTTOM of the list there is
meta id being 30 and then user id 2, followed by my log in. Is this saying there
is in fact 2 logins???? Please if I have not been specific enough let me know
and I will try again to explain 🙂

 * That sounds like its all probably OK & that my concern of a rogue user having
being created and your own user rights having been reduced was not the case.
 * A brief explanation of those parameters is at [http://www.velvetblues.com/web-development-blog/how-to-add-an-admin-user-to-a-wordpress-database/](http://www.velvetblues.com/web-development-blog/how-to-add-an-admin-user-to-a-wordpress-database/)(
I’m not suggesting you do anything with the tutorial, but it explains a little
   about the various parameters)
 * its good to be able to rule that out as the cause, but having never experienced
anything similar I’m afraid I’m out of ideas at the moment for what else could
cause this. I’ll post again if I think of anything else to investigate to track
   this issue down.
 * Do you have a database backup taken soon before the issue appeared? If so is
it possible to set up a new database and change the wp-config.php to link to
   that?

 * Yet another part of this crazy frustration. I have never had access to the buttons
I’m currently seeking. I thought maybe it was because I needed to update to the
new wp. So I went forward with the update hoping this would fix the errors. My
dashboard unfortunately did not have them once again after the update.
