missing folders

    I just did a clean install of wordpress 3.0.1 and when I attempeded to upload a new header picture I recieved the following error message. “Help Unable to create directory/home/user name/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?” this is through the dash board. There is no uploads folder or 2010 subfolder ect. Am I missing a file somewhere? this was a new download from ww.wp.xz.cn. Further I changed the permissions for public.html to 0770 in the /home/username/public.html directory to no advail.

    You need to change permissions on the /wp-content directory only. Change it temporarily to 0777, repeat the picture upload and wordpress should create the uploads folder for you. Then change the permissions on /wp-content back to 0755. You should change public_html back to it’s original permissions.

    what version are you using. did you upgrade or is it fresh install.

    version is 3.0.1 the latest version. It was a fresh install. I did a manual install.

    Try changing the permissions on /wp-content/uploads/ to 777.
