 * Hey guys,
    Rory here
 * I recently discovered the joys of blogging on wordpress.com (specialolympics.
   wordpress.com)
    I feel that it is now time for me to move to my own domain and
   hosting etc. For mainly customization reasons. Is this possible, and if it is
   will I keep all of my posts?
 * Thanks
    -Rory

 * WordPress.org is not officially related to WordPress.com, so therefore this is
   not the place for WordPress.com support. 😉
 * However, I’m told that there is a support link or something like that on your
   WordPress.com dashboard, so use that. 🙂

 * Hang on, if redrory was asking about how to move from a .blogspot blog to a blog
   at his own domain powered by WP, there would be a million responses* telling
   how to do that. Why should it be any different coz he wants to move from wordpress.
   com?
 * _* ok, slight exaggeration!_

 * josalmon – I agree, but then we have importers for those. I would hope that there
   is indeed a way for people to export their data from .com – but I have no idea
   if there is, or will be or even to be honest where to look for such answer.

 * I presume the best thing might be to click on the support link at wordpress.com
   and ask for an importer to be created?
 * It would be useful to me so I’ll head off and do that now.

 * The main problem is getting the data from the database being used over at wp.
   com. If that can be accomplished, hopefully with just a database backup, then
   that could be imported/restored into redrory’s new blog.
 * I’d say if you don’t have too many posts, that I’d do a copy and paste from the
   wp.com blog to the wp.org blog for each post.

 * I’ve not used it but wouldn’t `/import-rss.php` be an option seeing as .com doesn’t
   yet support database export?

 * Note that import-rss isn’t necessarily giving you ‘perfect’ data, since it gets
   processed in many stages after leaving the db. For simple sites, yes, you might
   be able to get away with it — and might not mind the issues that arise if it’s
   the only solution… 😉
