# Moving WordPress Question

 * Hi,
 * I have a question about moving WP / changing the site URL.
 * The documentation in the codex describes a number of different scenarios and 
   I’m not sure which one applies to my situation. Here’s a brief description of
   what I’m trying to do.
 * Currently, one of my clients has a site at [http://www.ventanatraining.co.uk](http://www.ventanatraining.co.uk)
   but they will shortly be acquiring the domain name ventana.org.uk. Within the
   next week or two, I’ll be getting an EPP code for that domain and will be pointing
   it to my client’s website – at which point a user could type either URL into 
   a browser to get to the site. However, the browser will only show the URLs for
   the existing domain, since it will—at least initially—be the primary domain, 
   and the one that the WordPress installation knows about on the Settings > General
   page.
 * Now, my client would prefer for the visible URL to contain the new domain rather
   than the existing one. So I need to change the site’s URL.
 * The instructions given at [http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL)
   describe a number of very simple procedures, so I’m hoping that’s all I have 
   to do. However, the instructions at [http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress](http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress)
   suggest that the situation is much more complex. So I urgently need to know which
   procedure I need to adopt.
 * Note that I will not be physically moving any of the site’s files. All I will
   be doing is changing the (primary) domain.

 * Changing the domain name is as easy as the WordPress Settings options where you
   change the website urls.
 * *BUT* it’s important that you run a find and replace on your database after doing
   this change to remove all the old URLs and replace them with the correct URLs.
 * This is where the [Velvet Blues Update URLs](https://wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/)
   plugin is quite useful.
 * Then to make sure you aren’t SEO penalized, put in a server redirect for the 
   old domain pointing to the new domain.
