# Moving wordpress website

   but I have some questions about it).
 * I am part of a project team creating a website using WP and I am writing the 
   documentation for installation of the website.
 * The site will be migrated to another server. We will be putting it on a CD then
   handing it over to our client so they will need to install it onto the server
   from CD.
 * I’m not sure where I need to be begin when writing the documentation. This is
   what I have:
    Download your WordPress installation and your database. Upload 
   this database to your new server. (It is recommended that you create a user with
   the same login credentials as on the old server).
 * If you choose to rename the database and/or user you will need to edit the wp-
   config.php file in the new installation folder.
 * Upload the new installation folder to your site. Your new site should now be 
   functioning.
 * Since, as I said, we’re handing it over on CD, I’m unsure of where to start with
   the installation instructions or if they’re even correct :/
 * Any help would be good 🙂

 * I don’t think it’s quite that easy. The database also needs to be updated. Check
   out [moderated] for a tool to assist.

 * I did look at that link. I forgot to mention, this website is for a uni project
   so we won’t be able to buy software. 🙁

 * [@jazz23](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jazz23/): everything you need to
   know is in the WordPress docs you read and the other docs linked to it. You need
   to write docs on how to create a database at the new host and import the database
   using phpmyadmin or another database import tool. You need to transfer the wp-
   content folder, too.
 * And juliekuehl is wrong: the database does not need to be updated if you are 
   not changing domains.
