Backups from before the plugin was installed sounds a bit strange – a bit too much like magic! They’ve all got today’s date… perhaps check your WP timezone settings (Settings -> General) to confirm what time your WP thinks it is?
The “View Log” button indicates that there is a log file recording the progress of the backup. Normally there would be one for every backup.
Actually, I can have a guess what it might be. Did you change the settings back and forth multiple times? When changing schedules on the free version, where there’s no setting for the precise time-of-day or day-of-month, UD will schedule a backup a few minutes after you save the settings. So, if you change and re-save a few times, you may end up with a few backups.
Though, it also looks odd that they all have the same minute, +/- 1, in the timing….
I suppose I’d advise deleting those backups, and seeing if it happens again!
Best wishes,
David
Ah hah!
The six backups are for a random mix of WP sites. The one with the View Log button is the only one for the active site. Whatever the script is looking at to generate this list of backups, it is somehow garbled.
Two points that might be relevant:
1. These backups were all initiated from MainWP so they ran nearly simultaneously.
2. Destination for all backups was a single folder on S3.
Ah, I see – so, presumably you pressed the “rescan remote storage” link?
If so, then that’s the expected result: it’s for pressing if you want to list backups not created in the current WP install. (e.g. it’s useful if you re-install WordPress). If you want to not show them again, then press the ‘Delete’ button – it’ll then give you the option to just delete them from the list of backups on that site, or to also delete them from remote storage as well. i.e. Pressing ‘Delete’ doesn’t then force the deleting of the backup.
As a tip, I’d recommend not running backups on all sites at once, if they’re on the same server. Backups are about the most resource-intensive operation you can do – since they want to read a copy of the whole site, compress it, and write it out.
Best wishes,
David
Well, this discussion is good. I need to be really comfortable with my backup system–how it works, what gets stored where, etc. and your detailed responses really help. Given this clarification about the list of backups, I am loving this plugin. 🙂
