 * I would like to allow users to be able to to type a skill in a text field and
   add it to a text bix or something – just like how linked in and other job sites
   allowing users to add their skills

 * You will need to have a deep understanding of WordPress structure and “Custom
   Fields” for posts and pages. Esp since you want the registered users (not admin/
   WP developer) to use it, so placement is key.
    Alternatively, there are plugins(
   and themes) which can help you with it. The net is full of it. A simple Google
   search should do.
