 * I am installing WordPress for the first time and need to have it multisite. Is
   there something I should do already before or during installation?

 * Install WP normally first. Then do this:

 * Thanks. It kind of worked but I still seem to have problems.
 * It seems to be possible to create a new site and it appears in the “xxx Site
   Network Admin”. However if I try to go f.ex. to Dashboard it says:
    “Not Found
   The requested URL /offblogi/luomublogi/wp-admin/ was not found on this server.
   Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) Server at [http://www.organic-finland.com](http://www.organic-finland.com)
   Port 80″
 * Likewise if I try to visit it:
    “Not Found The requested URL /offblogi/luomublogi
   was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) Server at [http://www.organic-finland.com](http://www.organic-finland.com)
   Port 80″
 * What might be wrong?

 * Do you have mod_rewrite enabled on the server?
    Do pretty permalinks work on
   the main blog?

 * I don’t know – need to check.

 * No.

 * I’m also worried that I may have made a mistake regarding the .htaccess file.
   When creating the network I couldn’t find it so I presumed I need to make one.
   Maybe I overwrote the existing one? How can I restore it?

   > No.
 * Aha! This is why it;s not working.

 * well, you;re supposed to replace everything that’s in the file anyway…
 * Go check your apache config files. Just because mod_rewrite is enabled does not
   mean it is actually reading the htaccess file, because you can specify it not
   to (which is default).
 * AllowOverride FileInfo Options
 * is what you need.

 * I checked the files again and realize what happened. I had saved .htaccess as
   a rtf and the .rtf ending was still there. I made a txt file and deleted the
   txt ending – now it seems to work. Easy to make stupid mistakes…
