 * Helloo…. here is the dealio:
 * I host primarySite.com at HostingCompany-A. I created an A record _on_ HostingCompany-
   A to point news.primarySite.com to HostingCompany-B.
 * news.primarySite.com is part of a multisite install (on HostingCompany-B).
 * When signed as the Network Admin, if i select news.primarySite.com as a “primary
   site” all internal links end up putting “news” in front of primarySite.com’s
   url. (when writing a post with a link to primarySite.com, it automatically directs
   it to _news._primarySite.com)
 * If i do NOT select news.primarySite.com as a “primary site,” news.primarySite.
   com redirects to primarySite.com
 * I guess i dont understand why it would redirect if “primary site” isnt selected.
 * My intention is to have the news.primarySite.com have internal links, as i write
   articles, to primarySite.com….. how in heck can i get this to work?
 * cheers,
 * Paul

 * Are you domain mapping? that’s the only thing I can think of that has a “primary
   site” option.
 * Unless you;re saying as a *user* that YOUR primary site is the news one. Inside
   multisite, if that;s what you checked, that just means it;s your MAIN blog that
   you will be directed to when you are logged in.

 * yep, i am indeed domain mapping…which i thought was required to have multisite
   work properly?
 * i use media-temple. so i created a symlink that points news.primarySite.com to
   the multisite install.

 * No you don’t need …. Well, you can’t use domain mapping if you’re not using Multisite,
   but that wasn’t what Andrea asked actually.
 * Are you trying to map the domain of the MAIN site on your network?
 * By the way, don’t bump. They’re deleted on sight.

 * > which i thought was required to have multisite work properly?
 * No, domain mapping is only required if you want the sub sites to have their own
   domain names.
 * If you want subdomains or subfolders, you do not need a plugin.

 * > Are you trying to map the domain of the MAIN site on your network?
 * no. i am mapping a subdomain to the multisite install.
 * Doing this however, makes it so that anytime i am writing a post or page in the
   sub domain and attempt to link to the main site…which is hosted somewhere else,
   creates ALL internal to the sub domain. i.e. writing a post within the sub domain
   and link to domain.com, the link, automatically goes to sub.domain.com.
 * anyway….maybe there isnt a way to accomplish what i am doing.

 * No plugins needed.
 * Just point the subdomain to your public_html folder (wherever WP is installed).

 * cool beans…thanks girly ::hopefully thats not offensive:: I have seen gender
   confusion so i thought i would throw that out. 😉 the HAT! ha
 * i was hoping to have the subdomain part of a multi-site install so when updates
   are available, its one click for all… 😉 all in one sweet spot.
 * i went the the way of ol’ school and indeed have the subdomain now on its own….
   did a export, import…a few ‘search and replaces’ and viola.
 * cheers and thanks for the follow thru. 😀
 * just for clarity, the main domain is on a different host than the sub domain
   and _thats_ what caused the hassle.
