 * Ok so now I have a whole new issue. I successfully (mostly) recovered my multisite
installation. I had a lot of issues, with one being the media library is full
of blank images. Featured images are not displaying, but many stories with embedded
images within the post do work fine. An issue but I can deal with it (although
with about 16000 posts it sucks).
 * But here is the puzzling issue right now.
 * I was able to login last night to the top level domain and the subdomains. But
this morning (on a different desktop at a different location) I could not. So
I opened a command line window, cd’d to var/www/html, and used the emergency.
php script to change the password. It worked fine, recognized the username and
changed the password. Once done I removed that script.
 * So I tried to log in and it failed. Here is the mystery: I CAN log into all the
subdomains with the new password, but not the top level domain or access the
   Network Admin panel.
 * Any ideas or solutions? Anyone ever experience this?

 * I would recommend changing the password of the superadmin via phpmyadmin. So
   as described here: [https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/#through-phpmyadmin](https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/#through-phpmyadmin)–
but make sure that you find the global wp_users table here and change the password
   there.

 * The password is the same for main and sub domains. The problem is solvable if
I disable multisite mode – I can then log into main domain and admin. If I enable
multi I can log into the subdomains but not main/admin. The password is the same.
 * I can make the site work by using Categories instead of subdomains, but I lose
the custom look of each sub. WP-CONFIG.PHP is properly defined as is .HTACCESS.
 * It’s just weird.

 * I suspect your user is not configured as a super admin. You have to define it
separately. I found instructions on how to do this here: [https://drawne.com/add-super-admin-wordpress-network/](https://drawne.com/add-super-admin-wordpress-network/)(
from heading “Using phpMyAdmin to add a Super Admin”).
